Macaron, not macaroon

Here's a fun fact which I found out yesterday.

Macarons are made of french meringue cookie shells filled with ganache or cream fillings in a variety of colours and flavours. Whereas macaroons are made of coconut meringue cookie shells often dusted with desiccated coconut or dizzled in chocolate.

Often, people mistake macaron as macaroon so here is the difference. One is made of almond flour, the other coconut. Also, pronounce and spell macaron as maca-RON, not maca-ROON because if you were to do so in european countries, they will probably give you a dollop of baked coconut instead.

On a side happy note, mom sponsored me for a phoon huat baking class (macarons and cheesecake) tomorrow! Stay tuned for the update x.
